Youth Camps | Application Procedures

Thank you for your interest in a position with our youth program! We recognize that our staff and volunteers are the heart of the program and we work hard to build and support an amazing team. 

How To Apply

  • You can only apply for a job online. There are no paper applications.
  • NOTE: If hired, you will need to be in possession of documents that prove you are authorized to work in the United States.  A list of accepted documents can be found on the last page of Homeland Security Form I-9.
  • Read through the entire web page to ensure you have completed all steps.
  • Before you begin the online application, read Online Application Instructions.

There are 3 steps:

  1. Complete the online Cal Youth & Outdoor Staff Application.
  2. Submit the Supplemental Forms (see links below).
  3. If applicable, send the Work Permit form to the Staff Coordinator at the address below.

Step 1

Complete the on-line CYOP Staff Application (See link above).

Helpful Hints:

  • Have the following information available: your e-mail address you frequently check, your address and phone numbers; summer availability, and skills and work experience.  If you have a resume, have it ready to upload.
  • When searching for CYOP jobs, type in Job ID Numbers (above chart)

Step 2 

Please complete the Supplemental Forms:

  1. Applicant Reference Form : Two (2) different reference forms are required for all NEW Applicants (non-returning staff)
  2. Code of Ethics Form : Required for ALL Applicants (including returning staff)
  3. Work Permit for students under 18 years old (see below)

Work Permit

Work Permits are required for all staff who are under the age of 18.  If you are under age 18 but have graduated from high school, you do not need a Work Permit.

  1. Pick up an Application For Work Permit from your school counslor or school office. 
  2. Complete your section and send the Application For Work Permit to the CYOP Staff Coordinator (address listed above). 
  3. Staff Coordinator will sign it and send it back to you. 
  4. Take the completed  Application For Work Permit back to where you originally obtained it (usually your school). 
  5. Your school will give you the actual Work Permit.  Mail your Work Permit to the CYOP Staff Coordinator (address listed above) after you make a copy for yourself!
  6. You cannot work unless your Work Permit is turned in to the Staff Coordinator.

Interviews

We will review your application and notify you by the e-mail address you provided on your application if we select you for an in-person interview. Phone or Skype interviews are available for those out of the area. Interviews begin in March and applications will be accepted until positions are filled. We finish our main hiring in May but do hire all summer, even in mid August.  Applicants who do not meet minimum requirements will be promptly notified. All other applications will be kept on file until interviews are completed.

Those applying for swim instructor, EMT/paramedic, and wilderness positions must submit copies of current certifications (front and back).  

  • For swim instructor:  American Red Cross: WSI (preferered), First Aid, and CPR/AED for adult/child. 
  • For EMT/paramedic positions:  EMT/paramedic license, proof of passing the National Registry of EMT (NREMT), and CPR and AED for adult/child  For wilderness positions:  WFA.
